Can religion save women?

India, today is replete with instances of crimes against women. The social mindset which has been created can often be related to patriarcha notions set deep in the scriptures. Analyzing the claims, we can conclude that these allegations can be answered (not refuted) by correct interpretations and sound knowledge. The religious perception of women had always been putting man over women.

Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, the first Prime Minister of independent India, once said - "If you want me to tell you what a nation is like, tell me the position of women in that country." Legislations or laws form a potent source of emancipation for the marginalized sections of any society - minorities (of any kind : religion, region, class, caste or ethnicity) and women (ironically, constituting almost half of human population.)

Archaeological studies of cave paintings from early India indicate that during the hunting-gathering stage, the role of women was equal to that of men. The dichotomy between women as gatherers and men as hunters did not exist. There are paintings showing women engaged in hunting animals. Women also had complete control over their sexuality. Even till this date, the hunting gathering tribes are the most egalitarian societies.
